GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE
MONTHLY REPORT: FEBRUARY 2021
Prepared by Course Manager, Robert Bacon
Weather Summary
Since the last report in mid-January not much has changed, weather wise. January finished with an average daily temperature of 2.6oC almost 4oC lower than January 2020 (6.4oC). As we moved into February, we were lucky enough to avoid the large deposits of snow seen throughout the central belt and beyond.
Course Status
The snowfall we did receive was still enough to see the course closed for a significant period. The families that engaged in sledging were generally respectful.
The Health & Safety of our members is always of paramount importance especially when the Clubhouse and Pro Shop are closed severely limiting our ability to provide aid if/when required.
Furlough
Again, I am sure that the clubs use of the government furlough scheme is common knowledge and the fact that we are only operating with 2 staff and have been since November 30th is widely known. The use of the furlough scheme will be reviewed at the end of January but is expected to continue. This has obviously impacted on and sharply prioritised the work scheduled for this winter. UPDATE: We will return to a full complement of greenstaff on Monday 22nd of February.
Updated Winter Program
The winter program has been badly affected by the weather patterns since the festive period. We will continue to push on.
3rd Green – New drainage installed & Front bunker modified with bunker face being lowered. ONGOING, WE HOPE TO BE RETURFING THE DRAINLINES NEXT WEEK.
New Ditch at 10. DITCH COMPLETE | BRIDGES and DITCH BASE MATERIAL TO BE ADDED.
Drainage on paths & resurface. YET TO BEGIN.
Bunkers – Edge, destone & top up with sand. SCHEDULED TO BEGIN EARLY MARCH.
Gorse – Focusing on the carries at 14 & 17. YET TO BEGIN.
Tree Work – Raise canopies etc. ONGOING.
Large Holes
We will be returning to regulation hole cups mid-February to allow our members to ‘get their eye in’. THE NEXT HOLE CHANGE WILL SEE THE RETURN OF REGULATION HOLE CUPS.
Divot Squads
We will be looking to divot all our fairways as the temperatures start to rise. Towards the end of March, we will be looking for volunteers. While we remain in ‘lockdown’ this may be hard to organise, safely.
